Already voted European Car of the Year 2025 in January this year, I, together with
other Irish Motoring journalists, gathered at the Renault Store in Dundrum
Shopping Centre to get officially introduced to their new all-electric Renault5 E-
Tech.
The Renault 5 E-Tech is now on sale in Renault dealerships nationwide and pricing
will start from €25,995 or €225 per month with PCP finance from MFS.
First Impressions
Albeit in surroundings best known for its lifestyle offerings, the Renault shop in
Dundrum was welcoming and certainly not out of place, the Pop Yellow Renault 5
immediately reminiscent of the original. For me, with the current penchant for
reintroducing past names and affixing them onto completely new and visually
different models, this new Renault 5 differs and has honoured the original model
wonderfully.
A five-door small family hatch, this 2025, fully-electric 5 E-Tech, will please on first
glance, proudly displaying its moniker on numerous places on its bodywork.
Distinctive front headlight, together with an outer design that plays great homage to
its forefathers, this new 5 is quite substantial.

Two Battery Options
This 2025 Renault 5 E-Tech Electric will be available with two battery
options—40kWh and 52kWh—each offering different power outputs. The entry-level
40kWh battery, paired with a 120bhp electric motor, delivers a range of up to 310km
WLTP.
Three Trim Levels
Customers can choose from three trim levels: evolution, techno, and iconic, with
pricing starting at €25,995 for evolution, €27,995 for techno, and €29,995 for the
top-spec iconic—all prices include the SEAI grant.
Customers opting for the more powerful 52kWh battery, paired with a 150bhp
electric motor, get the driving range extended to 410km. This option is available in
two trims: techno, priced from €30,995, and the flagship iconic, starting at €32,995.
Colour Choice
Five vibrant body colours are available, two of which – Pop Yellow! and Pop Green! –
hark back to shades that were present in the 1970s catalogue. The other three shades
available are: Pearl White, Starry Black and Midnight Blue. Two-tone paintwork with
the Starry Black roof is also available with the top-end (iconic) and mid-range
(techno) trim levels. All models in the range wear 18-inch wheels as standard.
Vehicle-to-Load
Renault 5 E-Tech electric’s new 11 kW AC bi-directional charger features V2L
(vehicle-to-load) capability. With V2L, you can power a 220 V (up to 3,700 W)
appliance from your car’s battery with a simple adapter.
The 11 kW charger fitted as standard on all versions makes Renault 5 E-Tech electric
can top up the 52 kWh battery from 15% to 80% in 3 hours and 13 minutes. For
charging on the go, Renault 5 E-Tech electric’s 100kW DC charging capability tops
the car up from 15% to 80% in 30 minutes.
Renault Renolution
Over the past four years, Renault has evolved its line-up, launching eight new models
in a very short space of time that feature new design, cutting-edge technology, and a
strong commitment to electrification. This transformation has already led to
significant success, with Renault securing the prestigious European Car of the Year
title for two consecutive years, Irish Car of the Year title for Renault Scenic and
International Van of the Year for the Renault Master.
Since opening in mid-January, the Renault Store on Level 1 at Dundrum has
welcomed over 20,000 visitors. On my visit, I can only say that it was a very positive
decision.
Launch Drive
With its tight turning circle of 10.3 metres, decent steering and nice response from
the 52kWh battery, the 5 proved to be up for all that was asked during a South City
launch drive that had the usual traffic light GP, speed humps and some national
route dual-carriageway. Quiet and rattle-free, the driving position and seats provided
comfort and unhindered conversation.
While it carries the looks of the ’70 model, this is a bigger car, with more
sophisticated suspension, albeit tight in the rear, I like me, you are on the northside
of six-feet. Otherwise, it is a very pleasant place to be. Boot space is 326litres, with
the 60/40 rear seat split expanding that to 1,106litres.
Taking it as an aperitif, I look forward to a more expanded drive soon. This new 5
from Renault is certainly deserving of a test drive and worthy of your time to get to
sample its delightful personality. Yep, I liked it.
