Peugeot 3008 purrs onto Irish roads

Published on 24th July 2024 at 16:08

The latest Peugeot 3008 has just made its Irish street debut, its sloping, fastback
SUV profile drawing the stares of many on my test drive launch. The front end in
particular is very eye-pleasing, with its claw-like Day Running Lights fashionably
identifying it amid the myriad. At the rear Peugeot designers have modernised the
traditional slope of the fastback with a "floating" spoiler. This innovative feature
enhances the curve of the new 3008's bodywork while optimising aerodynamics and
complementing their distinctive three-claw rear light signature.
Since its introduction in 2017, the 3008 has found space in some 13,000 Irish h0mes
And as voted by my fellow motoring judges, was awarded the accolade of Irish Car of the
Year in 2018. It was also crowned as International Car of the Year in 2017. This new
Peugeot 3008 is manufactured exclusively at the Sochaux plant in France and is now
on sale across Peugeot dealerships nationwide.
New owners get the choice of two new powertrains: a mild hybrid and a fully electric
offering, with a range of up to 527kms (WLTP), the arrival in quarter one of 2025
welcoming a version with a range of 680 kilometres. On the inside the designers has
reworked their iCockpit and have delivered a much-improved panoramic console
that embodies their original intent, but is easier to consume and premium in its
delivery.
Trim Levels
It will be available with two trim levels, Allure and GT,
Size & Stance
The E-3008, being a compact all-electric SUV, has a length of 4.54m, a width of
1.89m and is 1.64m in height, with 520 litres of boot space - identical to that of the
previous 3008. It sits on Stellantis’ brand-new STLA Medium electric powertrain,
delivering a range up to 527kms WLTP), with recharge time of 20-80% in 30
minutes from a 160kW charger. For the tekkies among you, this STLA Medium
comprises a permanent magnet synchronous motor operating in tandem with an
electric gearbox to deliver more power, efficiency and torque, powered by a 400V
lithium-ion battery.
For AC charging an 11kW three-phase charger is fitted on board. For DC rapid
recharging, CCS charger on the new E-3008 is capable of charging speeds up to
160kW, enabling the E-3008's standard range battery to be recharged from 20% to
80% in 30 minutes, and less than 30 minutes for the Long-Range version.

The new E-3008 also features a V2L (Vehicle to Load) function, giving customers the
option of powering an electrical device via the car’s high-voltage battery. The system
can supply up to 3kW and 16A. The V1G or Smart Charging function can also adjust
the time and power at which the battery of the new E-3008 is charged to optimise
charging costs.
Peugeot has equipped the new 3008 with 19” or 20”wheels that contribute to both
modern styling and aerodynamic performance, coming with the new brand emblem
in the centre.
Colour Choice
Customers can choose from a range of six colours for their new 3008, Obsession Blue
which changes from blue to green depending on the light and the shape of the
bodywork. Other colours available are Ingaro Blue, Okenite White, Nera Black,
Cumulus Grey and Titane Grey.
Inside Story
The 2024 3008 features a floating, curved 21” HD panoramic screen, sitting above
the flat top and bottom, compact steering wheel. This works really well, being slightly
curved towards the driver while also giving the passenger an informed view. Next to
the panoramic screen is the instrument cluster which combines all the required
driving information of speed, power, driving aids and energy flow In the centre of the
dashboard, the touch-screen is used to manage the heating/air conditioning,
navigation and media/connectivity systems.
The central part of the 3008’s dashboard also houses the i-Toggles, fully
customisable touch-sensitive buttons that can be programmed to provide quick
access to 10 of the user's favourite functions, such as calling a specific contact,
starting navigation to a frequently used destination or setting the air-conditioning to
a favourite temperature.
Ambient LED lighting, adds to the good-feel factor of the new 3008. This can be
customised in eight different colours (standard on GT trim). Peugeot’s Air Quality
System (AQS) ensures that the cabin is a refreshing and calming place to be.
On the road with the new electric E-3008.
My launch test drive took in a route from west Dublin, M50 to M11 onto Ashford,
where my return to Dublin was via Roundwood, the Sally Gap and Blessington. The
variation and demand provided a good insight into the E-3008’s driveability and
liveability factors.

Quiet, with easy power, the E-3008 glides through the motorway miles without
flinching. Taking it onto the narrow, meandering roads of the Wicklow and Dublin
Mountains and the benefits of electric propulsion is immediately apparent. It climbs
with total dismissal of the gradient, the automatic transmission and regenerative
braking providing a smile-inducing, stress-free and entertaining drive.
On my drive of some 120 kilometres, the new E-3008 was comfortable and displayed
no adverse reaction to what was asked, certainly enough to merit my looking forward
to a longer drive later in the year. Two paddles behind the steering wheel allow the
for the choice from three levels of retardation:
1. Low (-0.6m/s²), for a feeling close to that of conventional brakes.
2. Medium (-1.2m/s²), for increased deceleration.
3. High (-1.8m/s²), for maximum deceleration, and therefore regeneration.
I am a fan of one-pedal driving and beneficially, the medium and high levels
automatically switch on the rear brake lights for the information of following drivers.
Safety
The New 3008 comes with a host of driver aids including:
 Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function
 Lane-keep assist
 Speed limit sign detection.
The 3008 also features active safety technologies, such as:
 Automatic emergency braking with collision warning
 Lane departure warning
 Driver Attention Alert
 Long-range blind spot monitoring
 Advanced Traction Control.

Three all-electric powertrains (heat pump is standard on E-3008 and across
Peugeot’s passenger car line up):
